James Bond hits Accra

Yesterday I did what would have been impossible a few months ago. I had almost given up hope it would ever happen as it happened months after the promised opening. I went to see a movie at Silverbird Cinemas at the Accra mall!

Virgo and I went to see the new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, believe it or not, it's the first Bond movie I have ever seen, don't ask me why. As we got into the mall I said if we follow the popcorn scent surely it would take us to the cinema, and so it did. Once we'd gotten up the stairs, it was like any other movie theatre in the world. The AC was on such a low temperature that it actually felt like we were in a wintry November land.

The whole experience was great, cosy seats, good movie and a perfect, relaxed way of digesting a feast of fufu and groundnut soup! When we left the mall at a few minutes to midnight, we looked out across Tetteh Quarshie and Airport area and realised it looked like any metropolitan city in the world.

Accra (and Ghana) is definitely moving forward (for want of a better, non-political phrase...)!

Damn, I live on Spintex and STILL havent foudn the time yet. Soon come.

Meanwhile, I second Nana Yaw: we will definitely have to get the whole Bond-less back story. Good time to join the tale though.

I know, it's awful, but at least now I've broken my trend/curse, lol!

Que, what surprised me the most was that it wasn't as crazy busy as I expected it to be on the opening weekend, they have enough staff to handle it all. Try going one day after work instead of sitting in Spintex traffic.

As for Bond, my only excuse is that I always felt I should start from t he beginning, and since it seemed too much to go through all the movies, it just never happened. But now, I enjoyed it so much I have to see the rest!

High Five, Maya!

"The whole experience was great, cosy seats, good movie and a perfect, relaxed way of digesting a feast of fufu and groundnut soup! "
That, I believe, is the all time concise definition of the good life in the eyes of a Ghanaian!

Yours is a beautiful world indeed!

Ha ha ha, thanks Posekyere! It truly was the best way to spend a Saturday in Ghana (and the cinema was just the icing on the cake) ;)

Sorry Anon,

I have no idea, think I may be too old (or too out of touch?) for the whole HSM phenomenon. But if I hear anything, I'll let you know...

Thanks for taking us along to your first Bondfilm! How much did it cost? Will this be entertainment for all or just for a few?

Oh, forgot to mention the price! It was GHc10 and large popcorn costs GHc3. All in all I think it's reasonably priced compared to what we pay at restaurants and stuff. Not something everyone can afford but most people can go once in a while.
