For weeks I have been wondering what's happening to Fidel Castro. It has been so quiet since Raoul took over I began to fear Fidel was no longer with us. Then, this Saturday he spoke out again. There are certain men who must be admired simply for the fact that they don't give a damn about what anyone thinks and therefore say exactly what they want. Castro is definitely one of them. There are not many of his comments I can disagree with relating to his opinions on the American election.
Personally, I never thought a black man would even get this far in a US election during my lifetime, but just as I begin to be impressed by the forward thinking nature of many Americans, I come across this video, which once again reminds me of the narrow-minded nature of the stereotypical red-neck.
...and suddenly, just like Castro, I can't help but feel it is a miracle that Obama is still alive, with all the ignorant, hateful people around in his country.

Permit me to be the contrarian on this but Obama's election as President will demonstrate just how remarkable the U.S. is in many aspects. When Obama says nowhere is this even possible, I believe that is the understatement of the century.
Matter of factly, this feat is impossible in Europe, Canada, most of Asia (except India that has elected a minority candidate in the instance of M. Singh who is a Sikh) certainly every square inch of the Middle East and perhaps most parts of Africa.
How many times in Africa have we elected somebody purely on meritocracy and competence?
Certainly America has allowed itself to descend in to a big funk, the election of Obama goes a long way towards redeeming the promise and opportunity of America.
Thank you for your comment, Sijui, you're very right. I think in the past decade, especially since 9/11 and the war in Iraq, the view of the United States as the land of opportunity has been severely tarnished and the respect the outside world once had for the country has disappeared. I know how disappointed we were in Europe at the re-election of Bush.
However, like you've said even the potential election (as it is now) of Obama as president has once again reminded us that this is the land were anything, anything at all, is possible.
And what a wonderful world it would be if our children are born to a world of a black president of the United States!
